If you have a lawn, as much as possible, you want your grass to be thicker, greener, and healthier. You also want to achieve it with less effort from you.
The good news is, here are some tips to make your grass greener:
Water Deeply but Infrequently
When watering your grass, it should be deep enough to reach down 4 to 6 inches of soil. However, the soil type in your lawn and the weather conditions in your area are also factors to consider.
If your soil is heavy, then water less and not as often. Do this with the interval for longer periods. On the other hand, if you have sandy soils, then do some fast and heavy watering. But, know that this will dry out the grass more quickly. Water the grass every three days during dry, hot weather.
Get Rid Of Weeds In Mild Weather
When the weeds are growing, you need to kill them. This is because the leaves absorb the herbicide and then spread throughout the other parts of the plant.
The herbicide will not be as effective when the weather is extremely cold, as the weeds are not growing. Apply herbicide only when the weather is good because the rainwater will rinse off the chemical.
Do Not Skip Fertilizing
The grass tends to sleep during the colder months. So, make sure to feed your lawn well before this weather condition occurs. The roots will continue to store energy and absorb nutrients, after the grass going dormant.
It is advisable to fertilize when the weather is warm and bright. Do not skip this part because it is an essential thing you can do to your grass.
Check The Soil pH Level
No matter how you do everything right, the grass in your lawn will not grow if the soil is too alkaline or acidic. You can have the pH level of your soil tested. Collect a sample of the soil in about three different areas in your lawn.
The ideal pH level is from 6 to 7.2. If you get a level that is too low, add pelletized limestone. But, if you get too high pH level, use sulfur or iron sulfate.
As you make your grass healthier and greener, do not forget to take care of your entire property by buying homeowners insurance.
